How to Measure PVC Strip Curtains

Getting accurate measurements is the single most important step when ordering PVC strip curtains. Follow this guide to measure your opening correctly every time.

What You Need to Measure

  • Opening Width (A) — the clear width of the door or opening, measured inside the frame
  • Opening Height (B) — from the underside of the header (or where the rail will sit) to the floor

Step-by-Step Measuring Guide

Step 1 — Measure the Width (A)

Measure the full clear width of the opening from left to right, at the widest point. Do not include the door frame itself — measure the usable opening only. Your rail should match or slightly exceed this width.

Step 2 — Measure the Drop (B)

Measure from where the bottom of the rail will be fixed down to the floor. Add 50mm so strips brush the floor to form a complete seal. This gives your strip length.

Step 3 — Choose Your Overlap

Overlap determines how much strips cover each other — more overlap means a better seal but slightly more resistance when walking through:

  • 50% overlap — light pedestrian traffic, minimal sealing needed
  • 67% overlap — recommended for most warehouse, workshop and food applications
  • 80% overlap — maximum seal for cold rooms, freezers and pest-critical areas

Step 4 — Calculate Strip Count

With 200mm wide strips:

  • 50% overlap → each strip covers 100mm → strips needed = Width ÷ 100mm (round up)
  • 67% overlap → each strip covers 66mm → strips needed = Width ÷ 66mm (round up)
  • 80% overlap → each strip covers 40mm → strips needed = Width ÷ 40mm (round up)

Step 5 — Choose Your Rail Type

Application Rail Type
Standard doorway, pedestrian Hook-On Rail (stainless or galvanised)
Forklift / loading bay Swivel Hinge Rail
Wide opening, full clearance needed Twin Track Rail
Schools, nurseries, offices QuickMount Rail (tool-free)

Quick Reference Strip Count Table

Opening Width Strips @ 50% Strips @ 67% Strips @ 80%
1,000mm 10 16 25
1,500mm 15 23 38
2,000mm 20 31 50
2,500mm 25 38 63
3,000mm 30 46 75
4,000mm 40 61 100

Based on 200mm wide strips. Always round up to the nearest whole strip.
