Coloured PVC Strip Curtains: Uses, Benefits & Options
Installing PVC strip curtains on stainless steel hanging rail above industrial doorway

While clear PVC strip curtains are the most common choice for most applications, coloured PVC strips play an important role in UK industrial and commercial premises — from safety zone demarcation and traffic management to visual identification and colour coding systems.

Available Colours

  • Yellow — most widely used safety colour; zone marking, hazard warnings, pedestrian walkway delineation
  • Red — danger zones, restricted access areas, fire equipment zones, hot work areas
  • Blue — mandatory instruction areas (PPE required), cold storage identification, quality control zones
  • Green — safe zones, first aid areas, emergency exit routes, food-safe zone identification
  • Orange — warning and caution applications, forklift traffic routes, temporary hazard marking

Safety Zone Demarcation

One of the most valuable applications of coloured PVC strips is safety zone marking in warehouses and factories. The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 require that hazards and safety zones be clearly marked. Coloured PVC strip curtains contribute to a visible, physical safety marking system:

  • Yellow strips at pedestrian walkway entrances clearly demarcate pedestrian-only zones from vehicle traffic areas
  • Red strips at restricted area entrances provide a high-visibility warning that access is controlled
  • Blue strips at PPE enforcement zones remind personnel that protective equipment is required beyond the curtain

Traffic Management in Warehouses

In busy UK warehouses with mixed pedestrian and forklift traffic, the HSE's workplace transport guidance recommends physical separation of pedestrian and vehicle routes. Coloured PVC strip curtains can form part of a comprehensive traffic management system: yellow strips on forklift access doorways, green strips on pedestrian-only doorways, and red strips on combined pedestrian/vehicle doorways to remind pedestrians of vehicle traffic presence.

Colour Coding in Food & Pharmaceutical Facilities

In food production and pharmaceutical manufacturing, colour coding is used extensively to prevent cross-contamination. Coloured PVC strip curtains can extend this colour coding system to doorway barriers — consistent colour coding between curtains, protective clothing, cleaning equipment and zone signage creates a comprehensive visual management system that aids training and compliance.

Technical Specifications

Our coloured PVC strips are manufactured with colour pigments incorporated throughout the PVC (not surface-applied), so the colour is consistent through the full thickness and will not fade, peel or flake. Available in the same widths (100mm-400mm) and thicknesses (2mm-4mm) as our clear range. Note: coloured PVC is opaque or semi-opaque, reducing visibility through the curtain. For applications needing both colour identification and visibility, consider one or two coloured strips at the edges of an otherwise clear curtain.
