Why Standard Sizes Fall Short
- Older UK industrial and commercial buildings frequently have non-standard door openings
- The mounting position for the rail may give an incorrect strip drop length with a standard kit
- Wide openings (4m+) are rarely covered by standard kits
- Specialist grades in all sizes are often not available in standard kit form
A strip curtain that is too narrow for the opening leaves gaps that defeat the thermal and pest exclusion purpose. Strips that are too short don't create an adequate floor seal. Strips that are too long create a trip hazard and fold on the floor, accelerating wear at the strip base.
Understanding Overlap: Why It Matters
The overlap between adjacent PVC strips is one of the most important performance variables. Too little overlap creates cold bridges — gaps through which air freely exchanges. Standard overlap recommendations:
- Light pedestrian use: 30% overlap (e.g., 60mm on 200mm strips)
- Standard pedestrian/light goods: 33% overlap
- Heavy goods/vehicle access: 40-50% overlap
- Cold rooms and freezers: 50% minimum
- Loading bays: 50% minimum

Unusually Tall Openings
Aircraft hangar doors or tall racking access doorways require extra-long strips. We supply strips cut to any drop length. Very long strips (over 4m) may require ribbed PVC for additional stiffness.
Angled or Irregular Openings
Some openings are not rectangular — ramps, angled thresholds or arched doorways. For ramp applications, strips can be cut at an angle to follow the floor profile.
Temporary Partitioning
PVC strip curtains are sometimes used for temporary room partitioning or exhibition stand dividers — applications requiring specific dimensions not covered by standard kits.

- Drop length (from underside of mounting rail to floor, plus required floor overlap)
- Strip width (100mm, 200mm, 300mm or 400mm)

- Overlap preference
