Spray Booth PVC Curtains UK

Creating an effective spray booth enclosure requires curtains that meet strict criteria: chemical resistance, anti-static properties, solvent resistance and compliance with UK and EU safety standards. At PVC Strip Curtains UK, we supply specialist spray booth PVC curtains used by professional body shops, MOT and bodywork centres, aerospace MRO facilities, industrial coaters and furniture producers across the UK.

Why Standard PVC Curtains Aren't Suitable for Spray Booths

Standard clear PVC is not appropriate for spray booth use. Paint solvents and thinners — including cellulose, 2K and waterborne systems — can attack ordinary PVC, causing it to soften, discolour and lose structural integrity. More critically, in an environment with flammable spray particles, static electricity build-up on standard PVC presents a genuine ignition risk.

Our spray booth curtains are manufactured from anti-static PVC with a surface resistivity typically below 109 Ω, preventing the build-up of electrostatic charge that could ignite solvent vapours or paint particles. This is a fundamental safety requirement in any spraying environment and aligns with ATEX zone assessment guidance for coating facilities.

ISO Standards & UK Regulatory Compliance

Spray booth installations in the UK must comply with:

  • DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002) — requires assessment and control of explosive atmospheres from flammable liquids and vapours
  • BS EN 12215:2004 — covers spray booths for organic coating, including construction requirements
  • COSHH Regulations — covering control of exposure to hazardous spray particles and solvents
  • HSE guidance PM54 — safe working with vehicle refinishing products

Our anti-static PVC spray booth curtains are compatible with these requirements. Our team can advise on appropriate configurations for your ATEX zone classification.

Solvent & Chemical Resistance

Our spray booth grade PVC is formulated to resist attack from common solvents used in automotive and industrial coating, including cellulose thinners, 2K hardeners, waterborne basecoat systems and isocyanate-containing products. The curtain surface can be wiped clean of paint overspray without degradation.

Available Sizes & Configurations

We supply spray booth curtains in strip widths of 200mm and 300mm, in 2mm and 3mm thickness. For enclosed spray booths, we typically recommend a twin track rail configuration on the open face, providing a double-layer anti-static curtain barrier that minimises overspray escape while allowing easy operator access.

Measuring Your Spray Booth Opening

Measure the clear opening width of your spray booth entrance (inside the frame) and the drop height from the underside of your mounting rail to the floor. We recommend allowing a 100-150mm floor overlap. For full measuring guidance, visit our PVC strip curtain measuring guide.

Here are some key features and benefits of spray booth curtains:

Material: Spray booth curtains are made from heavy-duty and fire-resistant materials such as PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or vinyl-coated fabrics. These materials can withstand the chemicals and solvents used in painting processes and ensure safety in the event of fire or accidental ignition.

Controlling Airflow: The curtains help to manage the airflow within the spray booth. Proper airflow control is crucial for effective paint application, drying, and ensuring a safe working environment for operators.

Overspray Containment: By creating a barrier, spray booth curtains prevent paint overspray from escaping the booth and settling on surrounding equipment, vehicles, or surfaces. This helps maintain a clean and controlled workspace.

Customizable: Spray booth curtains can be customized to fit the specific dimensions of the spray booth, making them a versatile solution for different types of painting applications.

Transparency: Some curtains have transparent sections, which allow supervisors and operators to monitor work inside the booth without entering or disrupting the painting process.

Easy Installation and Maintenance: The curtains are usually easy to install and replace, which ensures minimal downtime during maintenance or curtain replacement.

Compliance with Regulations: Spray booth curtains help companies comply with safety and environmental regulations related to air quality and pollution control.

Overall, spray booth curtains play a vital role in optimizing the painting process, protecting workers, and maintaining a clean and efficient workspace. They are an essential part of any well-designed spray booth system.
