PVC Bulk Rolls vs Complete Kits — Which Should You Buy?
PVC strip curtain material is available in two forms: complete kits (rail + strips, pre-cut to length) and bulk rolls (50m of continuous PVC that you cut yourself). Both have their place — and choosing the right one can save you significant money.
Complete Kits — Best For:
- Single installation — one door, specific size
- First-time buyers unfamiliar with cutting and fitting
- Applications where strips are all the same length
- Small to medium-sized doorways (up to ~4m wide)
- Situations where the rail is also needed (kits include the rail)
Bulk Rolls — Best For:
- Multiple doors of the same grade (one roll covers several installations)
- Non-standard drop heights — cut every strip to exact length
- Ongoing replacement programmes — stock the roll and cut replacements as needed
- Large installations where kit pricing becomes expensive
- Businesses that service or maintain multiple sites
- PVC sheeting applications (cut as flat sheet, not strips)
Cost Comparison
As a rule of thumb, bulk rolls save 30–50% per metre compared to pre-cut kit strips. For a 3m wide door with 3m drop at 67% overlap (approx. 45 strips × 3m = 135m of PVC), a bulk roll can deliver substantial savings.

How to Cut PVC Roll to Strips
Cutting bulk PVC to strip lengths is straightforward:
- Measure and mark your required strip length on the roll
- Cut across the 200mm width with a sharp knife and straight edge
- Punch or drill a 10mm hole at the top centre for the hook-on plate bolt, or fold and clamp for plate-type hooks
- Attach hook-on plates and hang on the rail
