PVC Strip Curtain Rail Types Explained

The rail is what holds your PVC strip curtain up — but the right rail type depends on your door width, traffic type, and installation requirements. Here's what each rail does and when to use it.

Hook-On Rails — The Standard Choice

Hook-On rails are the most widely used PVC curtain rail. Each strip hangs from an individual hook-on plate that slots into a channel rail fixed above the opening. Strips can be removed and replaced individually without tools.

  • ✅ Most economical option
  • ✅ Easy individual strip replacement
  • ✅ Available in stainless steel and galvanised steel
  • ✅ Suits pedestrian doorways, internal partitions, and general warehouse use
  • ❌ Not ideal for very wide openings or frequent vehicle access

Swivel Hinge Rails — For Forklift & Vehicle Traffic

Swivel hinge rails are mounted on a pivot bracket that allows the entire rail — and all its strips — to swing 180° clear of the opening when required. Strips naturally return to the closed position.

  • ✅ Ideal for loading bays, forklift lanes, and large vehicle access
  • ✅ Available in 300mm (56% & 80% overlap) and 400mm (60% overlap)
  • ✅ Strips can withstand regular vehicle contact
  • ❌ Higher cost than hook-on; requires sturdy mounting surface

Twin Track Rails — Maximum Access Control

Twin track rails use two parallel channels. Strips hang in alternating channels, meaning half the strips can be pushed to each side — fully clearing the opening for large loads or vehicles. Used in wide industrial doorways where complete clearance is occasionally needed.

  • ✅ Full opening clearance when required
  • Aluminium construction — lightweight and corrosion-resistant
  • ✅ Best for production areas receiving occasional large deliveries
  • ❌ Higher cost; more complex installation

QuickMount Rails — Tool-Free & Child Safe

QuickMount rails clip on without drilling, making them the fastest to install. No sharp edges. Ideal for environments where safety and ease of removal are priorities.

  • ✅ No tools, no drilling — clips directly onto a fixing bar or frame
  • Child-safe design — no exposed fixings
  • ✅ Perfect for schools, nurseries, offices, and light commercial use
  • ❌ Not rated for forklift or heavy vehicle contact
